How many hours should a DJ play at a wedding? ›

Obviously the amount of time for the DJing will be dependent on how coverage you've paid for. The normal, optimal length for a wedding reception is 4 hours (this includes the dinner portion). When you add in co*cktail hour and the ceremony, there would be another 2 hours of music.

Typically, professional function bands for weddings will be between 95db-110db. This can change depending on the size of the line-up, the style of band and the type of instrumentation used.

By asking for a deposit, the DJ is legally ensuring that you will pay them the rest of their contracted amount and that the DJ will be at your wedding to perform. If there is no deposit there is nothing to keep the DJ from booking someone else in your spot.
